That is planned for the morning of June 18th. [...]]]> Well, at 15 months, Kyan was 23 lbs, 31.5 inches tall and had a head circumference of 18.5 inches. For the height and head measures, that put him just over the 50th percentile (for his age, compared to other kids) and just over the 25 percentile in weight. So, he’s doing great!

We also found out that he’ll need ear tubes for the almost constant infections and fluid that just don’t seem to ever leave his ears (at least since the start of his infections, which began in March). That is planned for the morning of June 18th. At least he shouldn’t need as many antibiotics in the future. I’m sure he’ll still get infections and still need some drugs, but hopefully it will be greatly reduced. And they say you don’t need earplugs for standard water play (just when there are bubbles in the water), so no need to worry about that for all the pool stuff and playing at daycare.

And the big news we just got this morning — no more physical therapy! He’s been walking on his own when he feels secure, but that’s been mostly at the house and a little at daycare. Well, during his PT visit this morning, he walked all over for most of the time he was there. He barely hesitated. It was great to see him so anxious to get around AND doing something about it. His therapist said he still needs to work on some things, but that his walking is solid and now it’s just about practicing things. He got up from lying down and sitting each time it happened and did really well overall. We have a visit in the morning from the Blake Foundation (Easter Seals), but they haven’t seen him in 5-6 weeks and I think this may end up being our last visit with them, too. Freedom! And it’s good to know that he’s almost caught up and less scared to get around. Now we just have to watch out for him running all over the house!

Oh, and the ear infection came back. He’s on [...]]]> He just started standing up on his own for more than a few seconds and then we tried having him walk between us (had always been more like falling from one of us to the other). By the time he’d done it 4-5 times, he seemed to be getting it and within an hour of “playing” he was taking a good 7-8 steps on his own and getting to his destination (a chair, a table or his musical table). Crazy how it just seemed to click with him.

Oh, and the ear infection came back. He’s on his 3rd round of antibiotics in 2 months. Joy. We have a follow-up with the doc next week to see if this finally resolved it or if we need to do something more.

Other than that, nothing super-noteworthy. We got a zoo membership on Saturday and walked around there for a while. He was loving the birds. Oh, and he got to feed one of the giraffes. Not a bad weekend.

So, he was 20 lbs, 8 oz and 29.5 inches long (I didn’t catch what his head circumference is now). He got a bunch of shots and a TB test and we have to go for bloodwork (CBC and lead test) in [...]]]> So… Kyan’s been fighting bronchiolitis and an ear infection since 3/1 (or that’s when the doc diagnosed it) and it looks like it’s gone. We went to the doc yesterday for his one year checkup and we were told to only use the inhaler on an “as needed” basis and no new antibiotics (he’d finished the prescription he had). Whew!

So, he was 20 lbs, 8 oz and 29.5 inches long (I didn’t catch what his head circumference is now). He got a bunch of shots and a TB test and we have to go for bloodwork (CBC and lead test) in the next week or so. We’re getting a referral to a developmental pediatrician to make sure his delays with some gross motor skills are documented (besides just being in his PT records and with the Blake Foundation/Easter Seals records). Other than that, he seems to be doing fine.

We’re going to talk with the daycare about moving him into the next room (he’s supposed to be “one and walking” for that, but maybe, because the delays are more than “regular” ones, he can move over even if he’s not fully mobile, yet). He’s got a buddy in his current room (who is a month younger than him — born just a few days later than Kyan’s original due date was), so where he is works for now, but once that boy moves over, it would be a shame to have him in the room with two tiny babies (3+ months old) and no one to play with. So, we’ll see how that goes in a month or so. Per his “Ages and Stages” assessment, he’s doing great in communication, fine motor and problem solving skills — just the transitioning that he needs to work on. And nope, hasn’t rolled over again since the one night he did it. We have gotten him into a crawling position a few times, though, so that’s good. We have PT in the morning — we’ll see how he does then. Oh, and he’s got two more teeth coming in — on the bottom, on either side of the two front teeth he already has.

Anyway, that’s the latest. [...]]]> So, went to the doc and Kyan’s got bronchiolitis and an ear infection. He’s got an albuterol inhaler (every 4 hours, 24×7 until the cough is gone — up to 2-3 weeks) and antibiotics (at least those are only twice a day). His pulseox was 94 — not bad, but an indication of what was going on (97+ would be normal, per the doc). The doc could hear the wheezing. And it was the left ear that was inflamed (right ear looked suspicious, but the left ear was definite).

Anyway, that’s the latest. More joy.
